5 Signs That You Need A Roof Inspection

1. Aged Roof

Roofs that are 15 to 20 years old and above may not be protecting your home.  Shingles are made to last, but many factors, like South Carolina summers, can accelerate the aging of shingles.  Homes built around the same time experience the same weather conditions so if your neighbors are getting a new roof, it is a good idea to get an inspection.

2. Interior Damage

Ceiling stains, paint bubbling and sagging ceilings may mean that there is moisture coming from the roof, which can build up and cause lots of damage inside of your home.

3. Cracked or Curled Shingles

Cracked or curled shingles can happen as a result of wind or hail damage, improper installation, product defects or a lack of attic ventilation.

4. Missing Granules

Roofs tend to lose more granules near the end of their useful life. Bald spots, granules in the gutter, or darker areas on some parts of the roof can indicate that the shingles are no longer protecting your home.

5. Rotted Wood

Rotted wood means there is moisture entering your roof where it should not be. This can affect the integrity of the roof as well as increase chances for interior damage.

Even if you have a few damaged shingles or a small leak, you may not need a full roof replacement. If your roof was properly installed and is less than 15 to 20 years old, repairs may be a better option.
