How to Plan Your Remodel

Planning your remodeling usually takes longer than the remodeling work itself. If you are doing a big renovation, it is recommended that you plan for six months to ensure you are confident in your decisions.  Follow the steps below to make sure you do not overlook anything in the planning process.

  • Determine the purpose for your remodel. Do you want to improve the overall look, make the space more functional, create more organized storage space, or increase the value of your home?
  • Make a wish list and look at photos for inspiration. Cut out magazine pictures and pin them on your bulletin board or create a board on Pinterest.
  • What kind of budget do you have for the project? Look up renovation calculators online to get a more realistic expectation of what materials and labor can cost in your area.
  • What is the timeline for your project? For a frame of reference, a kitchen usually takes about one to three months to renovate. Remodeling can take longer than expected because it requires different professionals to complete work (ie. plumbing, electrical, HVAC, cabinetry, countertops) and sometimes problems are discovered in the process that must be addressed.
